Unplug and Plug In: Day 33

March 21st, 2010 by Thalia Kehoe Rowden

Unplugging is particularly hard if you live by yourself.

Other people are great sources of alternative entertainment – you can play games with them (or play tricks on them, I suppose), have relaxed chats, do some cooking or a jigsaw, eat dinner together with some great music playing, and if you live with other people, you can do all of that without leaving your home or having guests.

This week, as we head into the last third of the Unplug and Plug In challenge, I’d like to encourage all of us to be aware that people living by themselves sometimes need others to take some initiative and invite them to do casual things like a not-fancy week-day dinner as well as big events.

If you live alone, this would be a good week to take the plunge and arrange to do something relaxed with someone else – invite someone for a walk, or to visit the new exhibition at Puke Ariki, or for a cup of tea or a board game.

This post only scrapes the surface of the challenges and joys of living alone.  You might also like to remind yourself of our conversations about singleness in May last year.  Go to the ‘earlier sermons‘ page and scroll down to numbers 26 and 27.
