Thalia’s Top Five: #3 Head meets Heart meets Hands

March 18th, 2010 by Thalia Kehoe Rowden

Each year I write a ‘Pastor’s Top Five’ for our Annual Report.  This year I thought I’d serialise it on the blog, so here is number 3: one of the 5 things I am most grateful for in 2009 at West.

#3 Head meets Heart meets Hands

It’s still a huge buzz for me that I get to be the ‘resident theologian’ and preacher at West, generating conversation for us all on important things.

The November survey gave very clear feedback on what you appreciated about the preaching.  One of the best things to know was that each series we did was the most important one in the year to someone.  You all had different favourites, which is great!  In 2010 we are planning again to try and give a balanced diet of preaching so everyone has something that makes a long-term impact.

In 2009, we:

• talked about our identity as a place of Shelter, Faith and Laughter

• looked at The Hospitality of Jesus in the gospels of Luke and John

• thought more about How to be Friends, focusing especially on the experiences of singleness and marriage

• raised money and prayer for Tranzsend in the annual Self-Denial focus

• explored the Story We Find Ourselves In, the big story of God-and-us, going from Genesis to Revelation

• inspired ourselves with stories of Saints and Heroes

recovered The Lost Art of Lament, looking at Lamentations and listening skills

• joined the world in waiting for Christ in our Handel’s-Messiah-fuelled Advent

Thank you to all who preached, to all who listened, and most importantly, to all who heard from God and acted on what you heard in 2009.  It was a life-changing year for many of us.
