Fresh Start, Fresh Perspective

July 8th, 2011 by Thalia Kehoe Rowden

From all of us at West, a huge welcome to Deanna Weir (Dee), our new Family Mentor!

Change the world, one family at a time.  For the last eighteen months, the church and West Baptist Community Trust have been preparing for this.

We have observed that there are a lot of isolated, struggling people in our area, and many of them don’t have friends or family who are able to support them.  For someone without a network of support, West has something to offer.  We have community.

Dee’s role, as an employee of the Trust, will be to strengthen connections between Spotswood Primary School families and West folks, and foster life-giving mentoring relationships.  She’ll have responsibility for training us to be volunteer mentors with Fresh Perspective, a fantastic national family mentoring agency we’ll be hearing more about on 17 July, and supporting us as we each step out of the boat into mentoring relationships.

If you’ve been wondering about Mick and Ruby’s Duncan’s call to become an Alongsider, or what direction God might be drawing you out of your boat, click on the Fresh Perspective link, chat to Dee on Sunday and see what you think.  Exciting times are ahead!

OOOhh yes!! Go West! Am watching with interest. I contacted Fresh Perspectives last year re starting a group here but no green light to date, so will be interested to track your experience. Hope you are all keeping well over there – we had a flying visit recently but only a few days and it didn’t include a Sunday so we missed you all. Next time ….. lots of love and blessings. Barbara and Alan.
