Maybe you could use Lent as an opportunity to rediscover classic children’s books? Wikipedia (of course!) has a list of older ones, and I found this list of more recent ones online as well, though I’m sure there are a million different lists out there. Maybe you teachers, parents and librarians can hook us up with some more ideas?
